Developing innovative medicines is only one of the many ways Roche employees try to help others. Our many employee-driven initiatives include:
- AIDS Walk
Our employees are among the thousands of Roche employees who each year participate in the annual Global Roche Employee AIDS Walk, a worldwide event that raises money for children who have been orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS. The money raised is use to run the nine day care centers we built in Malawi to care for some 3,000 orphaned children with meals, clothing, basic healthcare and education. Roche volunteers collaborate with this non-profit organization on National Rebuilding Day to help repair homes and facilities for needy individuals and organizations. In 2007, employees refurbished a Boys and Girls Club in Redwood City.
- Second Harvest Food Bank
Roche employees participate annually in a variety of activities that benefit low-income people living in the San Francisco Bay area. One of these is the Second Harvest Food Bank, where employees bring in food items or make monetary donations for distribution to hungry families in the immediate community.
- The Family Giving Tree
Roche employees purchase and wrap holiday gifts that are requested by low-income and homeless men, women and children. Employees also volunteer at the Family Giving Tree's central warehouse to sort gifts for distribution via local non-profits. In addition, the site sponsors a “Back to School” drive with this program to provide backpacks to low-income children.
